Even A Genius Can't Remember Everything!

Here are some tips to improve your memory--you'll even start remembering things you don't particularly want to remember!

WRITE THINGS DOWN

Let's say, you have a spelling test.
Don't repeat--do notsimply spell the words aloud.
Write them down.
Get someone to call them out or tape record yourself reading them...then play the tape as you write.
After all, how many words on your spelling test are you asked to spell out loud?
If you write out answers to chapter questions, for instance, you will remember the information in class much quicker!
If you already know a certain question will be on a test, write down the answer. Then, when you see it again on a test, it will be s-i-m-p-l-e.....

When most people study for a test,
they don't know what they know!
(think about that for awhile!)
SO...they spend lots of time studying what they already know so what they can figure out what they don't know!
WASTE OF TIME!

INDEX CARDS

SO...HOW CAN YOU FIND
OUT WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW?

AS YOU READ....
First, choose all the new information you don't know.
dates, words, definitions, etc.)
Second, write each on one side of an index card.
On the other side, write an explanation, answer, etc....
Here are examples:
the person---what s/he did.
the date---what happened.
the word---what it means.
a math problem---the answer
THEN...a couple of nights before the test....look atall 345 pages of the chapter (just kidding!),butstudy all the index cards. You will know all there is to know...and then some....

NOW....aren't you wondering what to do with all those cards after a test? Throw them all away? No. Save them for future tests and reviews. You're now way head of the game.
"well," you're saying, "what do I do with them at the end of the year? Can I throw them away then?" Absolutely not. Give them to a younger kid to use or sell them or use them to build a huge house of cards!
(By the way...you can read those notes and cards into your trusty tape recorder and listen to them as you clean your room....brush your teeth....eat your cereal....so go sleep....)

MNEMONIC DEVICES
(the "M" is silent!)

...are not dangerous
...will not self-destruct
...are not good to eat...but...
They are systems by which you can remember important things.
For example, have you ever heard of this idea for remembering the names of the nine planets in order from smallest to largest?:
Mercury---Men
Pluto-----Plan
Mars------Many
Venus-----Venus
Earth-----E
Neptune----N
Uranus----U
Saturn----S
Jupiter---Jumps

NOW, DON'T JUST SAY....
"Well, that was something different to read about!"

GET BUSY AND USE THE MEMORY METHODS WHICH WORK BEST FOR YOU!

YOU'LL BE GLAD YOU DID!
